It is commonly believed that only roots develop below the ground. How would you prove that potato tuber is a stem and not a root?

Solution

In potato, the evidence of stem nature is by the presence of eyes on its brownish corky surface. It is a pit like structure and represents a node and axillary bud is present in it. Thus potato tuber is a stem, not root that helps in vegetative propagation.
