It is possible to write down the electronic configuration of an atom if we know its atomic numbers. Why this is so?

Yes, we can write because the atomic number is a number of electrons present in the nucleus of an atom and electronic configuration is the arrangement of the electron in a different shell. Each can carry an only a certain number of electron, the no.of electron a shell can carry been known by formula 2n where n is the number of shells.
