Carbon dioxide $(C O_{2})$ is a greenhouse gas, which can trap the heat and prevents solar radiations from escaping

the Earth’s atmosphere.

As amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere increases, the amount of heat trapped also increases. This makes the average temperature of the Earth rise, making it hotter.

This increase of global temperature is known as global warming.
