Solution

The correct option is C Roop Kanwar
Sati is a Hindu ritual in which a widow sacrifices her life by sitting atop her deceased husband’s funeral pyre. In 1987, Roop Kanwar, a married woman, committed sati. Initially, it was said that she committed sati willingly. However, after this incident, several women activists and journalists, like Meena Menon, Geeta Seshu, Sujata Anandan, Anu Joseph, and Kalpana Sharma investigated the case. It was found that Roop Kanwar was forced against her will to do sati. Following the death of Roop Kanwar, in 1998, the government of India passed the Sati (Prevention) Act with very stringent provisions to outlaw this social evil from Indian society altogether.
