Solution

Benedict Anderson’s famous definition of a nation as "an imagined political community" - and imagined as both inherently limited and sovereign” captures the essence of what comprises a nation. A nation represents a group of people bound together by certain common features like descent, language, religion ethnicity, etc. It is an imagined community where people might not know each other face-to-face but have common aspirations and beliefs. The following features make India a nation:

a. A nation is characterised by shared history and beliefs that have bound people for centuries. India has a rich cultural heritage and history that gives a sense of pride to its people.

b. A nation is also characterised by sharing common territory, making it a distinct political entity. India’s shape and size has contributed in fostering unity in the country. A huge country with a continuous stretch of landmass gives it an intact structure

c. A nation is also based on shared aims and aspirations of the society. As in case of India, we may give example of how people during the colonial rule shared a common objective of attaining freedom and establishing democratic structure after independence. They defined their common aim of right to self determination and freedom.
