Question

It is told that one molecule of N A D H 2 forms 3 molecules of ATP in electron transport chain where N A D H 2 fuses to inner mitochondrial membrane from matrix side in mitochondria so how does N A D H2 formed in cytoplasm during glycolysis get converted into ATP.

Solution

Dear student

The main work of NADH2 or FADH2 are to provide electron for ETS at inner mitochondrial membrane. These molecule fuse at inner membrane and release high energy electron which pass along ETS. Energy released by electron during the process of passing electron on ETS used to pump hydrogen ion from matrix to inter membranous space of mitochondria and create high hydrogen ions concentration. The hydrogen ions driven back to the matrix from inter membranous space through an ATP synthatase which convert ADP in to ATP.
