Solution

Given speed of light = 3×108 m/s
Time taken for the light to travel from the galaxy to the Earth is 4 years.
4 years =4×365 days
4 years =4×365×24 hours
4 years =4×365×24×60×60 seconds [1 mark]
4 years = 126144000 seconds = 1.26×108 seconds
distance = speed × time = 3×108×1.26×108 metres
distance =3.78×1016 metres [1 mark]
