Certain guidelines must be observed to name compounds. The IUPAC (International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry) nomenclature (naming scheme) is used to name organic compounds.
For naming the compounds the longest carbon chain should be selected including the functional group such that carbon attached to the functional group has the lowest numbering.
For polyfunctional compounds, one of the functional compounds is chosen based on priority as the principal functional group and the other as substituents and named using appropriate prefixes.
In there are two functional groups present one is a double bond and the other is alcohol, alcohol is given more priority than alkene so the compound is named based on alcohol, and the suffix used will be “ol”
Longest carbon chain containing the functional group is Butane.
Also, the alcohol group is attached to the first carbon and a double bond is present at the second number.
