Solution

The correct option is D Plot C
Given initial line plot:

We can tabulate the data from the initial line plot as:
Length of the step (m) Number of steps Total distance covered (m)
12 2 12+12=22
14 2 14+14=24
18 2 18+18=28
Total 6 22+24+28

Now, 22=2×42×4=8888 is an equivalent fraction of 22

Similarly, 24=2×24×2=4848 is an equivalent fraction of 24

The total distance covered initially can be calculated as:

22+24+28=88+48+28=148 m

Now, to cover the distance in 5 steps,

148=48+48+48+18+18

Also,

48=4÷48÷4=12

48 is an equivalent fraction of 12

The total distance covered can be written as:

148 m=12 m+12 m+12 m+18 m+18 m

148 m can be covered in 5 steps where 3 steps measure 12 m each, while the rest 2 steps measure 18 m each.

Tabulating this data, we get:
Length of the step (m) Number of steps
12 3
18 2

Plotting the data on a line plot, we get:

The correct line plot that represents James' walk is plot C.
