The given data set is

4, 11, 6, 9, 8

For a set with an odd number of values, the median is the middle value of the data set when it is arranged in an ascending or descending order.

Arranging the number in ascending order, we get

4, 6, 8, 9, 11

Median = 8

When each data in the data set is decreased by 2. we get

4-2, 11-2, 6-2, 9-2, 8-2

= 2, 9, 4, 7, 6

Arranging the data in ascending order, we get

2, 4, 6, 7, 9

The new median of the data set = 6

Hence, the median value decreases.
