Solution
The correct option is B
Rice
India adopted a high yielding rice cultivar called IR8 – a semi-dwarf rice variety developed by the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) in Philippines. IR8 rice yielded about 5 tons per hectare with no fertilizer, and almost 10 tons per hectare under optimal conditions. This was 10 times the yield of traditional rice. Other semi-dwarf varieties developed from IR-8 and Taichung Native-1 from Taiwan were also adopted. Thus during this period rice production went up from 35 million tonnes to 89.5 million tonnes. Later India developed better-yielding semi-dwarf varieties of rice called Jaya and Ratna.
