Let Jenny purchased $x$ books.
Given that she gave 2 books to her friend that means now she has $x - 2$ books.
Given that now Jenny has $6$ books in total.
$\Rightarrow x - 2 = 6$
Add $2$ on both the sides
$\Rightarrow x - 2 + 2 = 6 + 2$
$\Rightarrow x = 8$
$∴$ Jenny purchased $8$ books.
