Given, the amount of money John has initially =$13
Money given to John by Sarah =$x6
Total money John has =$10
13+x6=10

Step 1: Subtract 13 from both sides of the equation in order to remove 13 on the left hand side.
13+x613=1013x6=1013 (1313=0)
x6=10×31×313 (making the denominators equal for 10 and 13)
x6=30313
x6=3013
