Let $x$ be the speed of John. Then speed of Jude $=9-x$
Time taken by John $=$ $\frac{20}{x}$
Time taken by Jude $=$ $\frac{20}{9-x}$
Time (John) $+$ Time (Jude) $=9$ hours.
$\frac{20}{x}+\frac{20}{9-x}=9$
$20(9-x)+20x=9x(9-x)$
$180=81x-9x^2$
Divide $9$ on both sides, we get
$x^2-9x+20=0$
On factoring,
$(x-5)(x-4)=0$
$x=5$ or $x=4$
Time taken by Jude $=$ $\frac{20}{9-x}$
