Solution

Amount of money John saves every month =$10
Let the number of months be x.
Amount of money John saves in x month =x×$10=$10x
Withdrawn amount =$50
Bank balance after withdrawn =$250

Amount of money John saves in x month - Withdrawn amount = Bank balance after withdrawn
10x50=250

Step 1: Add 50 to both sides of the equation to eliminate the constant on the left side of the equation.
10x50+50=250+50 10x=300

Step 2: Now, divide both sides by 10 to eliminate 10 on the left side of the equation.
10x10=30010 x=30

Hence, John has been saving for 30 months.
