Let the speed of Joseph in his first trip be x km per hour.
$\therefore$ Time taken in his first trip
$=\frac{50}{x}hrs.$
and the speed of Joseph in his second trip $=$ 3x km per hour
$\therefore$ Time taken in his second trip
$=\frac{300}{3x}=\frac{100}{x}hrs.$
$\therefore \frac{Timetakeninsecondtrip}{Timetakeninfirsttrip}=\frac{\frac{100}{x}}{\frac{50}{x}}=\frac{2}{1}$
