Solution

Properties of solid:

  1. Solids have a specific mass, volume, and shape.
  2. Intermolecular forces are quite strong.
  3. Atoms, molecules, and ions have fixed locations and can only fluctuate about their mean positions.
  4. They are stiff and incompressible.

Reasons why sand is solid:

  1. Although sand can be poured in any container and takes the shape of the container, still, each individual particle of sand has a fixed shape, volume, and size at room temperature and pressure.
  2. Hence, sand is solid in its state.
