We can solve this by either considering the salary of Kamlesh as x or ₹100 , since we are finding %.
Let us consider his salary to be ₹100.
Expenditure = 80% = 80100×100 = ₹80
Increase in salary = 40% = 40100×100 = ₹40
New salary = ₹100 + ₹40 = ₹140
Increase in expenditure = 45% = 45100×80 = ₹36
New expenditure = ₹80 + ₹36 = ₹116
New savings = ₹140 - ₹116 = ₹24
Savings % = 24140×100 = 17.14%
