Since Katarina notices that Type A trees produced 20 percent more pears than

Type B trees did.

Since Type A trees produced 144 pears, the "20 percent more" than the same amount is 120% of Pears produced by Type B, that is:

144=120100×B

144×100=120×B

14400=120×B

B=14400120

B=120

Hence, if the Type A trees produced 144 pears, then Type B trees produced 120 pears.
