Solution

The correct option is B

X:- Negative

Y:- Silver

The process in which a coherent layer of metal is deposited onto the surface of another metal on passing electricity is known as electroplating or electrodeposition.

Iron spoon will be connected to the negative terminal of the battery and it will act as the cathode. The other electrode should be made up of silver and will be connected to the positive terminal of the battery and it will act as the anode.

Reason:- When electricity is passed through the solution of (AgNO3), it will dissociate into (Ag+1) and (NO31) ions. The (Ag+1) will be attracted to the cathode due to its negative potential and silver will be deposited over the iron spoon. Moreover, the other electrode, i.e., is made up of silver because the quantity of dissolved silver is quite low in solution and this is when the silver rod helps. Rods becomes thinner and silver from rod dissolves in solution and further deposit over the iron spoon.
