Solution

The correct option is A

The accused took the case to the High Court because they were unhappy with the decision of the Trial Court.

Only option (A) is correct.

  • Option (b) is wrong because after the Supreme Court gives its verdict, they cannot approach the High Court. Rather it is the reverse. After the verdict is given by the High Court, the aggrieved party can approach the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court is the final authority.
  • Option (c) is wrong. Once the Supreme Court verdict is passed they cannot approach any other courts at the lower level. The Supreme Court passes the final judgement.
  • First the aggrieved party has to approach the trial court. If any of the concerned persons in the case is unhappy with the verdict of the trial court, then they can approach the High Court.
  • After the High Court passes its judgement, and if any of the concerned persons in the case is unhappy with the judgement, then they have the right to appeal at the Supreme Court which can agree with the decision of the High Court or overturn the decision of the High Court.
  • In the case of Sudha Goel, her husband and in-laws were declared guilty by the trial court after hearing the arguments of the lawyers.
  • Hence the husband and in-laws of Sudha Goel approached the High Court. The High Court gave a decision in favour of the husband and in-laws of Sudha Goel, after hearing the arguments of the lawyers.
  • Unhappy with the verdict of the High Court, the family of Sudha Goel appealed to the Supreme Court, which found that the accused were indeed guilty, after listening to the arguments of lawyers from both sides.
