Kevin consumed a lot of carbohydrates and proteins. If he suffers from indigestion, by the end of the day, estimate the possible regions where the process of digestion could have gone wrong?
Mouth, stomach, duodenum
If Kevin suffers from indigestion, then the digestion might have gone wrong in the places where, carbohydrates and proteins breakdown takes place. The process of digestion starts in the mouth itself, where starch is broken down, by salivary amylase into simple sugars (disaccharides). There is no digestion of carbohydrates in stomach. Pancreatic amylase further break down these disaccharides into monosaccharides, in duodenum and ileum region. Protein digestion starts in the stomach. Pepsin breaks protein molecules into peptides. Peptides are further broken down by trypsin, in the duodenum and the ileum.
So, the indigestion might have occurred due to incomplete digestion in mouth, stomach, duodenum or ileum.
