Solution
Edward Jenner first conceived the idea of vaccination.
In the 18th century, smallpox was widely spread and caused death to a lot of people.
Jenner observed a dairymaid who was infected freshly with cowpox lesions on her hand.
Jenner inoculated this lesion into a 13-year-old kid who was not infected with smallpox earlier and observed that the kid was immune to smallpox disease.
This led to the idea of vaccination that cowpox disease prevents smallpox disease.
