  • Salivary glands are present in the mouth and secrete saliva which breaks down starch into simple sugars.
  • The stomach is a J-shaped organ that produces HCl ie., Hydrochloric acid which makes the environment of the stomach acidic in nature.
  • The stomach also secretes gastric juices (digestive juices). And it breaks down proteins into amino acids.
  • The liver secretes bile which helps in the breakdown of large fat droplets into the smaller droplets.
  • The small intestine secretes intestinal juices which further breaks down the food into absorbable nutrients as:
    • Carbohydrates is broken down into glucose.
    • Protein is broken down into amino acids.
    • Fats are broken down into fatty acids and glycerol.
