When Lactobacillus is added to milk, it ferments the milk converting lactose (milk sugar) to lactic acid. The production of lactic acid reduces the pH destroying harmful microbes in milk. Infact many useful microbes are added to eatables to kill the harmful bacteria like Clostridum in the alimentary canal.
