Question

lanthanoids show +3 oxidation state whereas actinoids show multiple oxidation states why?

Open in App
Solution

Dear student, in the actinides, there is a small energy gap between 5f, 6d and 7s subshell. Thus, it is easy fir the electrons to get removed from the outermost shells and thus form multiple oxidation states in the case of actinides. Regards.
