In cycas, the ovules are sessile or shortly stalked orthotropous and unitegmic. The integument is very thick and made of three distinct layers; outer fleshy, middle stoney layer and inner fleshy layers. Inner to integument is a large massive nucellus. The integument surrounds the nucleus completely except the apical region called micropyle. Archegonia containing eggs are present in the nucellus.
