Law of independent assortment is applicable to genes present on the same chromosome
False
According to the law of independent assortment ‘when two pairs of traits are combined in a hybrid, segregation of one pair of characters is independent of the other pair of characters’. However if the two characters considered are from two different genes, present on the same chromosome then they do not separate from each other and get passed on together, unlike the genes that are on different chromosomes that segregate independently.
Therefore, the law is applicable only to genes present on different chromosomes.
