Coating vaseline on a plant leaves blocks its all stomata, as a result plant will die in a few days due to the following reasons:

1. Plants need CO₂ for photosynthesis, and CO₂ is absorbed from outside environment through stomata. If stomata are blocked, photosynthesis will be affected.
2. Closure of stomata will stop transpiration. Transpiration pull is necessary for ascent of sap, thus it will be reduced.
3. Oxygen released in photosynthesis is removed through stomata. If stomata are blocked, then this oxygen will accumulate within leaves and photorespiration will increase. This will increase loss of fixed sugars, and will speed up the process of senescence.
