Let ab and 2a2=7a5, 2b2=7b5 then find the value of a2+b2.

Given,
ab and 2a2=7a5, 2b2=7b5.
The above equations can be elaborated as a,b are the roots of the equation 2x2=7x5
or, 2x27x+5=0.
Then from the relation between the roots and co-efficient we get,
a+b=72......(1) and ab=52......(2).
Now,
a2+b2
=(a+b)22ab
=4942.52 [ Using (1) and (2)]
=294
=714.
