Question

Let mass of electron is half, mass of proton is two times and mass of neutron is three fourth of original masses. Then new atomic weight of O16 atom :-
A. Increase by 37.5%. B. Remain constant
C. Increase by 12.5%. D. Decrease by 25%

Solution

The mass will increase by 37.5%

We can neglect the mass of electron. The mass of proton has inc two times.
Since there are 8 protons and 8 neutrons.
So it`s contribution becomes 16 and neutron mass has changed to 3/4th of initial mass.
So it`s contribution becomes 6.

Total mass becomes 22. So % change is 37.5%

Hope it helps
