Solution

The correct option is A Neither R1 nor R2 is a transitive relation
R1={(a,b) R2:a2+b2Q}

Let a=2+3 and b=23
a2+b2=14Q
Let c=(1+23)
b2+c2=20Q
But a2+c2=(2+3)2+(1+23)2Q

Since (2+3,23) and (23,1+23)R1 but (2+3,1+23)R1.
So, R1 is not a transitive relation (1)

R2={(a,b) R2:a2+b2Q}.
Let a2=1,b2=3 and c2=2
a2+b2Q and b2+c2Q
But a2+c2Q
Since (1,3) and (3,2)R2 but (1,2)R2.
So, R2 is not a transitive relation (2)

From (1) and (2) we can say that Neither R1 nor R2 is a transitive relation.
