Solution

Lichens are called pioneer colonisers of bare rock. Lichens release a small quantity of acids which corrode the surface of rocks creating small pores and releasing minerals. With the passage of time the porous surface changes, break the rocks into smaller particles and hence make soil. This is how lichens help in the formation of the soil.
