The life cycle of bacteria in general consists of Four phase which are as follows :-
1) Lag phase - During the lag phase, bacterial population remains temporarily unchanged. Although there is no apparent cell division occurring, the cells may be growing in volume or mass.
2) Exponential or log phase - In log phase, the cells divide at a constant rate or their is rapid multiplication of bacteria. The doubling time of bacteria is approximately 15 minutes.
3) Stationary phase - Here in this phase, due to exhaustion of available nutrients the inhibitory products accumulates and results in the decline in the bacteria growth. In this phase, growth and death rate is equal.
4) Death phase - During the death phase, the number of viable cells decreases because the bacteria lose the ability to reproduce.
