Question

Light falls from glass (μ=1.5) to air. Find the angle of incidence for which the angle of deviation is 90o.

Open in App
Solution

Since, μ=1.5, Critial angle =sin1(1/μ)=sin1(1/1.5)=41.8
We know, the maximum attainable deviation in refraction is (9041.8)=47.2
So, in this case, total internal reflection must have taken place.
In reflection,
Deviation =1802i=902i=90i=45.
