Question

Light falls from glass (μ=1.50) to air. Find the angle of incidence for which the angle of deviation is 90.

Open in App
Solution

Since, μ=1.5,

Critical Angle =sin1(1μ)

=sin1 (1μ)=41.80

We know, the maximum attainable deviation in refraction is (9041.8)

=47.2

So, in this case, total internal reflection must have taken place.

In reflection,

Deviation =1802i

=90

2i=90i=45
