Question

LiI is soluble in water but LiF is not, why?

Open in App
Solution

Due to small size of F ions ,the lattic enthalphy of Lif is very high ,but the hydration enthalphy of it is very less.so lif is insoluble in water in Licl ,since Clis of large size and low lattice enthalpy and high hydration enthalpy so,it is soluble in water
