A cyclotron is a machine that accelerates charged particles to high energies.
Charged particles of relatively large masses are used to accelerate in a cyclotron machine.
Limitations of cyclotron
Only charged particles of relatively large masses (protons, deuterons, and alpha particles) can be accelerated by the cyclotron. Uncharged particles (neutrons) can't be accelerated in a cyclotron.
Material particles of small masses (like electrons) cannot be accelerated through the cyclotron.
The mass of an electron is very small and a small increase in energy of the electron makes it move at a very high speed and as a result, the electrons will go quickly out of step with the vibrating electric field.
