Question

Liquids and gases are called fluids. In what ways do they differ from each other

Open in App
Solution

Fluids: The substance that has a tendency to flow is considered fluid. Because they have large intermolecular space and lower intermolecular force of attraction.

  • Gas, and liquid fall in this category.
  • When external forces or stress are applied to the substances, they change their shape.
  • Gaseous particles have low intermolecular forces than liquids so they gain the shape of the container.
  • They differ in intermolecular force of attraction.
  • Inter-molecular forces are minimum in gas.
  • Liquid has maximum inter-molecular forces than gas but is lower than solid.

Thus, on the basis of intermolecular forces, liquid and gas are different from each other.
