Liquids generally have a lower density as compared to solids. But you must have observed that ice floats on water. Find out why?

Solution

→ When water freezes (the liquid is being converted into solid) to form ice a number of empty spaces are created.

→ When water freezes to form ice its volume increases.

→Also, the density ( mass per unit volume) of ice is less than water hence ice floats.
