Industries and automobiles are important sources of air pollution. Reduction, collection, capturing or retention of pollutants are the most reasonable strategies that can be adopted to control air pollution. Selection of fuels (coal with less sulphur, diesel or petrol with less sulphur) and their efficient utilisation are important measures that can be taken to control air pollution. These measures can be discussed under the following points:
(a) Reduction of contaminants at the source by using alternative raw materials or modifying the processing equipment
(b) Reduction of contaminant discharge at the source through the use of controlling equipment
(c) Dilution of the discharge at the source
(d) Proper planning of industrial areas such as zoning
