Solution

Metal : A substance that has a tendency to lose electrons and form cation is considered as metal. they have the following properties

  • High melting point
  • Good conductors of heat & electricity
  • High tensile strength
  • malleable & ductile
  • Lustrous and sonorous in nature

For Example – Iron [ Fe], Cobalt [Co],Nickle [Ni], etc.

Non-metal: A substance that has a tendency to lose electrons and form anion is considered as metal. they have the following properties

  • Non-metals are non-lustrous except for iodine
  • Non-metal may be solid, liquid, or gases at room temperature
  • They are brittle in nature
  • They are neither tough nor strong
  • Non-metals are bad conductors of heat and electricity except graphite

For Example – oxygen[O2 ], Nitrogen [N2 ], chlorine [ Cl2]
