Four important characters of gymnosperms are:
The plants have a sporophytic and a gametophytic generation. The sporophytic generation is dominant with the sporophyte differentiated into roots, stems and leaves.
They have two types of leaves, the foliage leaves and the scale leaves. Hence, they are said to be dimorphic.
Pollination in gymnosperms occurs by means of wind i.e they are wind pollinated.
They do not have flowers and the ovules are naked. Due to this, they are also known as naked seeded plants.
