List any two methods to reduce the problem of waste disposal.

Waste disposal:

  1. Disposing or getting rid of waste materials is one of the biggest challenges faced by the world.
  2. Lack of space for proper disposal and the pollution caused by these materials create the biggest problem.
  3. Various methods can be adopted to reduce this problem:
  1. Separation and segregation of waste:
  1. Waste materials can be classified as biodegradable and non-biodegradable.
  2. Biodegradable wastes can be disposed of in the soil or they can be utilized as manure or compost for agriculture.
  3. It can also be used for the production of biogas.
  4. Non-biodegradable wastes cannot be disposed into soil or water as such as they do not undergo biogeochemical cycles.
  5. They have to be collected and sorted into different categories such as plastics, polythene, glass, metals, etc.

2. Reduce, Reuse and recycle:

  1. Making small lifestyle changes by refusing, reusing and recycling plastic and non-biodegradable materials.
  2. While going outdoors refuse plastic bags and containers. Carry a cotton or jute bag instead.
  3. Waste materials like paper and plastics can be recycled to produce useful materials.
  4. Reuse plastic and glass containers for storage instead of throwing them after a single use.
