Solution

  • Science, not Rule of Thumb:
Rule of Thumb refers to the decisions and actions taken by a manager according to his personal judgement or perception. Taylor talks about replacing this with science. Instead of following whatever the manager thinks is correct, there should be a proper scientific method of doing a job. The decisions should be based on a cause and effect relationship which involves scientific research and analysis. For example, standardisation should be set in production by assessing a worker's performance over a period of time and not by mere intuition. This enables the worker to give his best performance which helps in efficient productivity.
  • Mental Revolution:
Mental Revolution refers to the change in the mindset of the workers and management. If both their work and ideas are acknowledged, it helps to build the spirit of togetherness and elevates a sense of security. Both their aims should be co-operating with each other to increase profits. The management should be ready to share the profits with the workers which would enable the workers to give more effort in their work.
