Food preservation:

Food preservation is one of the methods to protect food from unwanted microbial growth.

1) Canning:

  1. The food contents are sealed in an airtight container at high temperatures.
  2. Meat, fish, and fruits are preserved by canning.

2) Dehydration:

  1. It is the process of removal of water from food.
  2. It is the simplest method and prevents food spoilage by removing water.

3) Radiation:

  1. This method is also known as cold sterilization.
  2. The UV rays, X rays, and gamma rays kill all the unwanted microbes present in food.

4) Sterilization:

  1. This method is carried out to remove microbes from food.
  2. For eg., milk sterilization at 100°C kills the microbes.

5) Lyophilization:

This is the process of freezing and dehydrating the frozen product under a vacuum.
