An ornamental plant is any plant, or small trees , that are used for decoration or ornamentation. Ornamental plants are generally small plants, with good color or smell(fragrance), and most of them donot give us food.

Roses, ferns and phlox are ornamental plants. Others include lilies, opuntia(cactus),lavender, tulip, daffodils, etc. Cherry, apple, lilac, weeping willow, fir, cedar and juniper are some of the commonly used ornamental trees

All plants with colourful flowers and sweet smell are considered ornamental.
