List of positive and negative radicals in chemistry?

Open in App
Solution

Radicals:

  • A radical is known as an atom, molecule, or ion which has an unpaired valence electron in it, which makes radicals chemically very reactive.
  • Therefore, a radical ion is a kind of free radical that carries a charge which are two types of radical ions. i.e Ions of positive radicals and Ions of negative radicals.

Positive radicals:

  • The atoms acquire a positive charge, when it loses an electron, and are called positive radicals or positive ions.
  • positive radical ions are also called radical cations.
  • List of Positive radicals: Sodium ( Na) , Hydrogen ( H), Potassium ( K), Lithium (Li), Ammonium ( NH).

Negative radicals:

  • The atoms acquire a negative charge , when it gains an electron, and are called negative radicals or negative ions.
  • Negative radical ions are sometimes called radical anions as well.
  • List of Negative radicals:Flouride ( F),Chloride ( Cl),Bromide ( Br),Iodide (I),Sulfate ( SO²)

Hence, the above mentioned are the list of positive and negative radicals in chemistry.
