Application of Double Displacement reactions are listed as follows:
(a) Neutralisation of excess acid in stomach by antacids containing mild bases like Magnesium Hydroxide. The reaction is as shown :
2 HCl + Mg(OH)2 MgCl2 + H2O
(b) Formation of soap. The reaction is:
Fatty acid + NaOH Sodiumsalt of fatty acid + water
(c) Baking of cake when sodium bicarbonate reacts with acid in cake mixture, releasing CO2 so that cake becomes fluffy.
The reaction is:
NaHCO3 + HA ANa + CO2 + H2O
