Neon is a noble gas having a complete octet in its valence shell.
Hence, it has exceptional stability and it does not react with other compounds.
Although, it cannot give different reactions in order to produce important compounds but it itself can act in a way that it can be used for different purposes.
Neon is a colorless gas but when placed in an electric field, it exhibits color.
Uses of neon:
Neon gas helps in producing a bright reddish-orange light when put in an electric field. So, it is used in vacuum tubes, television tubes, and some indicators that operate at high voltages.
Liquified neon is commercially used as a cryogenic refrigerant which is a substance that is able to generate very low temperatures.
